Other Interests

These are a couple of other Interests that I have, that keep me out of trouble.

1946 Cederstrip (Lakefield) 1972 Merc 20 hp
This little heirloom I acquired 20 years ago , allows me to hang out with the perch and the bass in the St. Lawrence river.
As you can see (front view) She already needs a paint job, dam , I’m gonna have to get outta that basement come spring.
“ Works for me.”

Never say Die
On my links page I mentioned a small problem with a home made Lathe I built , no one wanted the chisels so I gave it another shot.

This my friends may even be classed as a Engineering wunder.
Turning speed is about 540 rpm , arrived at by age old formula
Rpm 2nd pulley (x) = diameter of 1st pulley
Rpm of 1st pulley = diameter of 2nd pulley
Equates to:
X = 1800 rpm x 1.5” divided by 5” = 540 rpm

The humble beginnings of this treasure was one of those things made in the early 60,s that turned your drill into a lathe.
I used old washer motor mounted on two door hinges so weight of motor keeps belt tight , mounted spindle that would take a drill chuck on a couple of pillow blocks tried a couple of different pulleys till I was comfortable with the speed.
I use this rig for turning small spindles of pine and butternut wood for various projects that are odd sized and are not easily purchased.
On off switch is at the ready when all hell busts loose.
Should you attempt this project , don,t forget to roll up your shirt sleeves.

Toys are put away for the winter and yes I did get to paint bottom of boat.
