Shop Talk

A few hairbrained schemes that have worked for me.

Recycle those old TV cabinets , clean out sawdust twice a year. They make great stands for power tools and you get to maintain your status as a lazy SOB.

Beefed up fence also extended miter for added stability , add sticky mesh drywall tape to miter fence , will stop wood from slipping.

Grab 1/2” more cut height with add on fence you will lose 1/2 “ on the width of cut , that should ‘nt bother you , if the cut is that wide , use table saw or take to neighbor and use his radial arm saw , let him do the cutting so if its wrong , you blame him.

As you can see I’m a great fan of 1/2 “ plexiglass , only because its available.
If you are stuck for some , that composition cutting board on the kitchen counter will do just fine , if asked where it is , just act innocent , it will never be recognized when you are done with it.

Every workshop needs a vice , cause if you don’t have one , well you just don’t have a real workshop , but that does’nt mean it has to be sticking out of your face , always in the way etc.
Get yourself some 3/4 ‘ oak or other hardwood , put a 3/4 “ baton every 2 feet and fasten to underside of table, only needs to be approx 6 “ deep.
Then build yourself holders like in pix for vices and hold downs , make them so they are flush with workbench or table top.
If you need em , you got them , if you don' t you have a clear workbench. If you are stuck for the oak, that centerboard insert for the dining room table works fine too , its not used half the time anyways. Warning !!! Never take the dropleaf , you lose too much on the curved edge , and you will never be clear of the crap you will be in.

Well , thats about it for Shoptalk , and like my Son said “ Kewl site Dad , eat yor hearts out Norm,Jon,Tim and Red,Green “ . So if there’ s anyway I can help you stay out of trouble , just let me know.
